Hi Guys! I can’t believe we have come to the end of August already! This month has been filled with transitions, started it off by burying my best friends mom which was one of the most painful experiences of my life, leaving my job and deciding to go back home to Malawi for a bit. I thought that leaving my job a couple of weeks ago would give me more time and energy to attend press days, meetings and post more but it actually had the opposite effect!
A few weeks ago I attended Africa Fashion Week in west London. I’m so sorry this post is long overdue but I’m hoping it’s better late than never. Africa Fashion Week London is an exciting event where African and non African people unite to celebrate the development of the African Fashion industry. This year is was even more exciting because we had a Malawian Lilian Koreia showcasing her collection called ‘Broken Pieces’ for her brand MIIZU. Her collection is fabulous and diverse with striking pieces that will take you from day to night. The designs also have an authentic African aesthetic with the use of the chitenje but mixed with a European twist in the styling. I know it’s called Africa Fashion Week London but this post is more about this Malawian designer because one of my main aims is to put the spotlight on Malawian talent and this designer is everything we at Populairelife celebrate…African Excellence.
All in all, it was a grand day. I was mesmerized by the pieces that graced the catwalks and look forward to next year’s event. Here are a few of my favourite looks from MIIZU.
